Pierre’s interest in Eusapia Palladino during this period seems almost to have superseded his interest in radium. In a letter to Georges Gouy in the spring of 1906, he mentioned his efforts with radium in a single sentence, then proceeded to write, at length, about a recent series of séances.

We have had some more séances with the medium Eusapia Palladino. The result is that these phenomena really exist and it is no longer possible for me to doubt it. It’s improbable but this is so and it is impossible to deny it after the séances we have had in perfectly controlled conditions. A kind of fluid members detach from the medium (mostly from her arms and legs...) and push objects forcefully. (Richet calls these exoplasmes). These fluid members form as a rule on a piece of black material... but sometimes they jump out into the open air.
